What will you learn?
Linocut is a relief printing technique in which a sheet of linoleum (sometimes mounted on a wooden block) is used as the printing surface. The design is carefully cut into the linoleum using a selection of specialist tools.
The raised, uncarved areas of the linoleum will receive the ink and print, while the carved-away areas remain blank. This means that the printed image is a mirror image of the design you carve.
During your session you will:
Learn how to safely use linocut tools and carving techniques
Understand how to plan and carve a design for printing
Explore inking and printing methods to create clear, bold prints
Gain confidence producing your own individual linocut prints
What to bring:
Sketches or design ideas for your print
A pencil and eraser for planning your design
Optional: Apron or protective clothing, as inks can stain
This sheet provides an overview of what to expect and prepare for your linocut session.
