Our Classes at Walford Mill

  • Linocut for beginners

Linocut is a relief printing technique that uses linoleum as a matrix. A design is transferred to the surface of the lino with pen and then redacted areas leave surfaces to be inked and transferred to the paper using a press.

  • Screenprinting

Screen printing is an effective technique for creating bold canvases, posters and artwork, but the method can also be used to print fabrics and textiles, so it's great for creating all sorts of custom clothing and products

  • Bookbinding

Bookbinding is the oldest method of documentation. These methods are defined by how the papers, called leaves, are stitched and glue together. For this workshop, we will discover the art of Coptic bookbinding with a soft cover.

  • CMYK

CMYK is a four-colour process to produce a full colour image through halftone separation. Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and black known as the key colour. These process colours are slightly transparent; when correctly overlaid you will be able to create a full colour image.

  • Monoprinting

Monoprinting allows considerable freedom in the approach to imagery, this is considered to be a very versatile method. You can decide to work positively or negatively, to use oil based inks, to incorporate other materials or not.

  • Drypoint

Drypoint is a process that refers to the ink being recessed into lines of a plate which are made of copper zinc or metal. Once the ink has been pushed into the line of a plate or matrix is then put through an etching press with paper and the pressure of the press embeds the paper into the inked lines below the surface allowing the ink to transfer from the plate to the paper.
