Screen Printing for Beginners
This course provides a practical introduction to screen printing, beginning with simple paper stencils and progressing to basic photographic stencil techniques. It is suitable for complete beginners, those wishing to refresh their skills, or anyone planning to use the workshop independently on an Open Access basis afterwards.
During the course you will:
Gain confidence in setting up a screen, using a squeegee, and working hands-on with the studio’s screen-printing equipment
Learn which stencil-making techniques are best suited to different effects, textures, and imagery
Produce colourful and engaging prints from your own designs
What to bring
A1 or A2 smooth cartridge paper (150–300 gsm)
Basic drawing materials:
Pencil
Eraser
Sharpener
Non-permanent, water-soluble markers
Lunch break: 12:30 – 13:30
Please bring a packed lunch or you may visit the onsite café.

Advanced Screen Printing

This course is suitable for more experienced screen printers who want to explore photographic imagery using halftone (bitmapping) , hard edged graphic designs, painted marks, drawn marks, scanned drawings, and more. This course will allow you to work independently on an open access basis afterwards.
Learn about the possibilities available through colour mixing, use of transparency and the overlaying of transparent or opaque layers.
Learn how to register multiple colour layers to create your design.
Learn how to make computer based stencils and halftones.

This one-to-one induction is designed for individuals who would like a focused introduction to the screen-printing process in order to attend Open Access sessions, or for those who wish to refresh their skills without enrolling on a full course.
The session will guide you through the essential studio procedures, including safe setup, handling equipment, and the basic steps needed to print independently in the open studio days. It is ideal for anyone planning to book Open Access studio time but who has not yet been inducted in screen printing.
Please note that in order to attend Open Access sessions, students must either complete an induction or have attended a course in the process they wish to use.
Following the induction, you should feel confident working independently within the studio guidelines.
